Job Description

Position Summary

The Director, Corporate HSE supports line management in the development, implementation, monitoring and ongoing revision/updateof the Pacific Drilling HSE Culture, the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Management System and supporting processes throughout the entire organization.

Position Scope

The Director, Corporate HSE position has worldwide responsibility across all operations and department functions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Degree level education (preferably in Health and Safety Management/Administration) and at least 7 years of experience in Health, Safety and Environment Management roles in the oil and gas industry (preferably with Offshore Drilling experience).


  • A NEBOSH International Certificate and at least 10 years of experience in Health, Safety and Environment Management roles in the oil and gas industry.


  • At least 15 years of experience in Health, Safety and Environment Management roles (preferably with at least 8 years in the Offshore Drilling industry)

Note: In addition to the above, any oil and gas drilling operations management experience is an advantage.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the ISO management principles and the ISO 45001/OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 suite of international standards
  • Adept in the use of computers including current editions of Microsoft Office or equivalent - in particular with Excel, Word and PowerPoint applications – working knowledge of databases, as well as the internet and e-mail.
  • Certification as a lead inspector/auditor with demonstrable experience in management of HSE audit programs.
  • Certification as a lead investigator.
  • Working knowledge of progressive HSE principles including human factors, industrial psychology as applied to HSE, behavioral safety management principles, etc.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles of HSE risk management including control of Major Accident Hazards, implementation of IADC HSE Cases, Process Safety and Personal Safety, etc.
  • Strongly developed capability as a communicator including as a presenter/instructor.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Support Pacific Drilling Executive Management in the establishment of a robust HSE culture, and development, implementation and monitoring of the Pacific Drilling HSE Management System.
  • Establish a competent HSE department and supervise staff performance and development according to established corporate policies and procedures.
  • Manage the company program for certification against HSE related international standards as deemed required – ISO 45001/OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001.
  • Define and track Health, Safety and Environment performance indicators and report on performance to management and other relevant parties (including authorities as required), according to established protocols.
  • Establish the competence and training expectations for Health, Safety and Environment and provide input to HR Training to ensure the appropriate design and delivery of HSE learning programs, including acting as an instructor, as defined appropriate.
  • Contribute to the development of corporate Health, Safety and Environment plans and facilitate the development of HSE plans throughout the company to ensure ongoing continual improvement.
  • Develop and implement the corporate Crisis and Emergency Management Programs including the planning and coordination of drills.
  • Communicate health, safety and environmental related information, including alerts, campaigns, posters, lessons learned, etc.
