The Mechanical Superintendent Drilling Equipment is responsible for providing technical support and guidance to
the rigs for all mechanical issues related to drilling equipment. Participate and mentor the rig crew for major
overhaul and upgrades.
Assist and support the Maintenance Department in the review, development, and utilization of the Pacific Drilling
Maintenance Management System (MMS).

The Technical Support Manager is responsible for managing Drilling Equipment, Marine Systems and Electrical / Electronic Subject Matter Experts (SME`s) within the Technical team. Together they provide technical support and assistance to the Operations team, participate, and assist with maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and upgrade of the drilling rigs. The position requires the ability to motivate and maintain effective working relationships with staff, partners, internal clients and external clients while relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The Technical Support Manager is required to actively participate in the performance of work scopes and projects as required while managing his function.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced level education and/or equivalent and relevant technical qualification
  • Extensive offshore and onshore technical experience at supervisory level
  • 10-years of relevant offshore drilling industry experience
  • 5 years of experience with technical support to rig operation
  • A leader both technically and in management processes with the ability to get the best from his/her team and to create a good working environment.
  • Knowledge of Dynamic positioning (DP), Power Management Systems (PMS) and Vessel Management Systems (VMS)
  • Knowledge of complex drilling control system including offline pipe handling
  • Extensive knowledge of software, software management systems, operating systems, networks, and programmable controllers
  • Knowledge and experience of hazardous area equipment and regulation IEC 60076 / API RP 14F
  • Knowledge of electrical design standards including IEC, API 14F, IMO MODU, SOLAS and Class regulations (ABS, DNV, BV)

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Comply with Pacific Drilling Code of Conduct and supporting policies, standards and applicable process documentation
  • Perform all work according to agreed expectations of both internal and external customers, focus on doing things right first time every time, and contribute actively to continual improvement activities
  • Develop and implement Technical Support team, system, and procedures
  • Ensure the quality of technical support is maintained at the highest level
  • Assist Operations management with all technical issues
  • Review status of hardware assessments and participate in rig audit, inspection, and assessment
  • Identify best practices and support a continuous improvement initiative for Maintenance and Technical Support
  • Participate in the training / mentoring of offshore personnel with regard to equipment and system maintenance, repair and upgrade
  • Actively participate in all equipment Root Cause Analysis (RCA).  Ensure that all findings are properly reviewed and closed out
  • Ensure that outcomes of issues / failures reports are taken into account to optimize operational safety and performance
  • Maintain direct lines of communication with the Technical Superintendent and the on-board Technical Team on all relevant activities regarding the rig’s operation and needs
  • Provide assistance to rigs in areas related to maintenance and budget preparation
  • Provide an effective line of communication with the offshore Technical Superintendent and all 3rd Party electrical, electronic, mechanical and marine technical specialists, suppliers, and vendors
  • Participate in the evaluation of the Maintenance Management System
